Stealth viruses were initially identified in patients with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) and have since been isolated from patients with a wide variety of illnesses.  To learn more about complex infectious diseases and about illnesses associated with CFS, the Center for Complex Infectious Diseases is a good place to start.

"New Concepts in Cause and Treatment of CFIDS" by Dr. Darryl See, January 17, 1997.

New developments in the field of stealth viruses.  Collected here, the May, 1999 issue of Experimental and Molecular Pathology includes 4 articles on stealth virus research, and the May 1999 issue of the Journal of Degenerative Diseases includes one. They all address chronic fatigue syndrome either directly or indirectly.

Center for Complex Infectious Diseases.  The primary mission of CCID is to determine the nature, origin, disease associations, modes of transmission, methods of diagnosis and responses to therapy of complex infectious diseases, and to disseminate such information.  CCID is currently specializing in the detection and characterization of viruses which have undergone a "stealth" adaptation to avoid elimination by the immune system.  W. John Martin, M.D., PhD. is a noted researcher into the relationship between stealth viruses and chronic fatigue syndrome.  Read "Stealth Virus Infection in CFS Patients." and FAQ'S Concerning Stealth Viruses and the Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
